Turns Per Day (TPD)
Turns per day, or TPD, is paid washer cycles divided by the number of installed washers and the number of days measured. It is the standard measure of how hard a laundromat's equipment is working.
Why Turns Per Day Matters in a Laundromat Sale
Turns per day converts machine count into revenue capacity, which is why it anchors the physical rebuild every serious buyer performs: machines times capacity times vend price times turns times 365 gives a ceiling that claimed revenue cannot exceed. The Coin Laundry Association describes TPD as the standard equipment-performance metric but does not publish one universal national benchmark on its public overview (Source: CLA Industry Overview), so a store's figure is established by observation rather than by looking one up.
Example
A store with 34 washers runs 2,890 paid cycles in a 30-day month. TPD is 2,890 ÷ 34 ÷ 30 = 2.83. If the seller claims revenue implying 4.6 turns, the gap needs an explanation before anyone signs anything.
What to Check
- Compute the physical ceiling: machines x capacity x vend price x turns x 365.
- Observe turns yourself across different days of the week, not just one visit.
- If claimed revenue implies turns you cannot observe, stop and get the explanation in writing.
