Water Heater Recovery Rate

Recovery rate is how much water a heating system can raise to target temperature per hour, given the incoming water temperature. It determines whether a store can supply hot water through its busiest hours without running cold.

Why Water Heater Recovery Rate Matters in a Laundromat Sale

Recovery rate, not tank size alone, decides whether the system meets peak simultaneous demand. Incoming water temperature is seasonal, so a system that is adequate in August can fail in January, which is why a summer inspection can miss a real problem. 'Tankless' is not automatically better at laundromat peak demand; the correct system depends on peak load, incoming temperature, storage, recirculation losses, gas pressure, venting, combustion air, and code.

Example

A store runs 14 simultaneous washer fills at peak on a Saturday morning. Sizing the system from average daily consumption rather than that peak produces cold rinses, customer complaints, and machines that appear to be failing when the problem is upstream.

  • Check recirculation losses and storage before assuming a tankless system is adequate.
